Festival Of Lights

At Danbury Library, October 21

DANBURY — The whole family is invited to visit Danbury Library on October 21 to enjoy crafts, traditional Indian music and dance, and learn about the history of Diwali.

One of the most anticipated celebrations of India, Diwali — or Festival of Lights — will be observed at the library on Saturday, October 21, from 1 to 4 pm.  As one of the longest festivals in the Indian year, it is full of traditions that include the burning of lamps as a message of peace and harmony in the world.

Participants can drop in and make their own Diwali lamp or Rangoli pattern and get a henna hand art appliqué.

At 1:30, Neenu Saoji will give a talk called “Diwali, Festival of Lights,” and at 2 guests will enjoy traditional music, dance. and treats from India.

The program is free. The event is co-sponsored by the Danbury Library and members of the Danbury Indian community.  For further information call Elissa Scudder at 796-1631.
