On October 5, Newtown beat Barlow 20-37, ND-Fairfield 15-50, and New Milford 22-23, handing the school its first loss since 2006, ending a 70-meet winning streak.

From the first gun, the varsity squad went at New Milford aggressively with Feinstein moving into the lead. New Milford’s Nick Grudev, slowly pulled away for the first two miles and then slammed the door in mile three, taking the win in 16:24. Sullivan moved into third place in the first mile and stuck there finishing in 17:03. Newtown’s three, four, and five runners moved in right behind New Milford’s two and three runners in the first mile, led by David Klein, along with Dieter Gutbrod and Palmer Lintz. Klein finished in 10th in 17:33. Gutbrod and Lintz closed with monster kicks as Gutbrod flew to fifth, just ahead of New Milford’s No. 2 runner Stephen Anderson in 17:13, despite a mid-race wipeout. Lintz placed eighth just ahead of New Milford’s No. 3, Noah Rossiter, in 17:32. Austin Baldour and Vinny Brophy closed out the top seven with solid races finishing in 16th and 17th places in times of 17:54 and 17:56, respectively, giving Newtown an excellent 2-7 split of 53 seconds.

The Nighthawks stand at  11-0 heading to Wickham Park on Saturday, October 9, to go against the state’s elite in the Championship race before returning home for Senior Night as they take on another conference power, Pomperaug, along with Bethel and Immaculate for the final regular season meet.

On September 25, Newtown went to Rhode Island and placed seventh in the Championship Race.
