July Mishmash At Love & Knishes
SOUTHBURY â Four programs are on the menu for all area adults aged 60 and over when they enjoy lunch and entertainment during July at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program of the Federation-Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut.
New this month is that some of the programs will take place on Tuesdays and others on Wednesdays. The programs take place in the social hall at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North. Lunch is served at noon and programs start at 1 pm.
On Wednesday, July 11, âCool Jazz for a Summer Afternoonâ features pianist Roger Young playing Gershwin, Cole Porter, Scott Joplin, and requests.
On Tuesday, July 17, âHarmony, History and Humorâ features Cece Borjeson and Ruth George. Their instruments include guitars, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, and pennywhistle.
On Wednesday, July 25, Martin Schiller, a child survivor of the Holocaust, will speak and read excerpts from his recently published and gripping memoir. Bread, Butter, and Sugar describes the unfolding horror of the Nazi genocide as seen through the eyes of a young boy. This memoir covers the now-emblematic features of a survivorâs journey both during and after the war with the intimacy of a young boyâs point of view.
On Tuesday, July 31, singer/guitarist Mark Levy returns from San Francisco to perform âThe Music of Israel.â He will play a sampling of the music from the early pioneers in Palestine to the latest tunes popular in the Jewish state.
Lunch reservations should be made by Friday for the following week. All programs are open to the public. There is a suggested lunch donation of $5.50 for those 60 and above and $8 for those under 60. For reservations call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish family Service director, at 267-3177, extension 105.
