Cancer, Heart Activities At Danbury Hospital

DANBURY — The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital will host a “Look Good…Feel Better” workshop sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) on Monday, November 12, from 10 am to noon. The free workshop takes place at the Praxair Cancer Center’s conference room, located on the first floor of the Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance, and valet parking also is available.

“Look Good…Feel Better” workshops focus on teaching female cancer patients beauty techniques that will help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Trained volunteer beauty experts from the community lead small groups through practical, hands-on experience regarding makeup techniques, skin care, nail care, and options related to hair loss such as wigs, turbans, and scarves. Workshop participants will each receive a free kit of cosmetics for use during and after the workshop.

To register, contact Danbury Hospital’s cancer care coordinator Joanne Ballerini, RN, at 739-7771.

Biweekly breast cancer education classes at The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital are scheduled Wednesday, November 14, and November 28, from 4 to 5:30 pm. Classes are open to any newly diagnosed woman with breast cancer.

Breast cancer education classes are held in the Ruth C. Donovan Resource Room Library, located on the first floor, Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance. Family and friends also are invited to attend.

Classes provide information about “what happens next”, including pre- and postoperative care, information regarding chemotherapy and radiation therapy, lymphedema precautions and exercise, relaxation techniques, as well as information about local support services.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet with a breast cancer survivor.
