DERBY â For the 2005 holiday season, Osborne Homestead Museum will feature winter holiday celebrations from countries around the world, highlighting special objects from the museumâs collections. âWinter Celebrations Around the Worldâ will open on November 25 and they remain on view until December 18.
Upon entering the museum, visitors will see the pretty holiday decorations of Holland interspersed with the museumâs incredible delft pottery collection. Another room showcases Chinese antiques amidst the colorful paper lanterns and decorations reminiscent of the winter holidays in China. Continuing through the museum, visitors will learn about the rich and beautiful traditions from ten different countries.
In addition, Kellogg Environmental Center, which is adjacent to the museum, will feature in its exhibit area several more international festivities.
The Osborne Homestead Museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. Museum guides are available for tours.
On the Friday evenings of December 2, 9 and 16, the museum will present Twilight Tours to highlight the special glow of the decorations in the evening hours. Twilight Tours will run from 4 to 6:30 pm.
In addition, group tours for adults and youth programs are available throughout the week; call 734-2513 for an appointment.
The Osborne Homestead Museum exhibits the fine art and antiques of Frances Osborne Kellogg. There is no admission cost, but donations are gratefully accepted.
The Osborne Homestead Museum and Kellogg Environmental Center, which are part of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protectionâs Office of Environmental Education, are at 500 Hawthorne Avenue (off Route 34) in Derby.
