Midnight Madness Party
Calling all Muggles! Celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the end of the popular series by J.K. Rowling at The Harry Potter Midnight Madness Party. It happens one last time at the C.H. Booth Library on Friday night, July 20, from 10 pm to midnight. Newtown youth entering grades 5 to 12 (or ages 10 to 18) are welcome to sign up for an evening of fun with skits, trivia contests, and Hogwarts snacks. Madame Trelawney will make an appearance too, with divinations for all who dare.
Costumes are encouraged, and those in costume can have a caricature drawn by artist Mike Valentine to take home as a souvenir of the party. Mr Valentine, who is a big Harry Potter fan himself, is a full-time caricaturist and illustrator whose work has appeared in a great variety of newspapers, magazines, and comic books.
The highlight of the party will be the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for those who preorder the book at the library and attend the party. The price is $21 for the hardcover edition. It is not necessary to order the book to attend the party, but it is necessary to attend the party to order the book.
The deadline to sign up for the party and preorder the book is July 16. There are only 50 places, with preference given to town residents.
Parents must sign up their youngsters in person at the main floor circulation desk of the C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, and fill out a permission form.
