ANDREW KOOISTRA WORK OPENS APRIL 12 AT WOODSTOCK BYRDCLIFFE GUILD w/1 cut

avv/gs set 3/19 #732651

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. — The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild announces an open members exhibition April 12–May 4.

One artist on view is Andrew Kooistra, who is exhibiting three large oils on canvas titled “Gardens.” Kooistra is a second generation Abstract Expressionist using a gestural approach to his work. He has developed a final style using gardens and landscapes as themes.

By using a broken brush stroke with rapid movement, nothing becomes stationary. Abstract shapes combined with colors are invented and put down in a rapid automatic crescendo. A thin horizon line is usually shown at the top edge of the composition and special effects are achieved by reducing the intensity of colors creating space with light and shadow in the picture.

Kooistra has completed many installation chain pictures that are interlocked and rotate around a room or gallery. For a long time he has been interested in Chinese landscape painters such as Guo Xi (circa 1020–1090) for inspiration.

The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild is at 34 Tinker Street. For more information, 845-679-2079.
