CPA Society Elects Newtown Residents To Leadership Positions

ROCKY HILL –– The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA) has elected two Newtown residents, Patricia M. Poli, CPA, PhD, and Alan J. Clavette, CPA, to serve on the executive board for the organization’s 2003–2004 activity year.

An associate professor of accounting at Fairfield University, Dr Poli was elected treasurer of the CSCPA. She previously served as secretary, as a member of the board of governors, and as a chair, member, and board liaison to the committees on publications, annual service award, accounting and reporting standards, governmental affairs, peer review, legal relations and services, executive education review, membership, continuing professional education, UAA Task Force, nominating, employee benefit plans, manufacturing, educators, Ad Hoc Committee on Committee Structure, and professional ethics.

Dr Poli is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and president of the American Accounting Association (AAA) Northeast Region. She recently chaired the 52nd annual AAA Northeast Region Conference.

Dr Poli holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and a doctorate in accounting from New York University.

Mr Clavette is the managing member of the Newtown firm of Clavette, Josselyn & Company, LLC. In addition to his position as secretary, Mr Clavette has served the CPA society as a member of its board of governors, and as a chair, member, or board liaison to the committees on accounting and reporting standards, annual service award, real estate and construction, trust, estate and gift taxation, state taxation, federal income taxation, nominating, UAA Task Force, educators, financial institutions, Ad Hoc Task Force on CSCPA Legislative Efforts, and the CPA/CPA advisory group.

In addition to his activities with the CSCPA, Mr Clavette is a member of the AICPA and its tax and financial planning divisions, vice president of the Newtown Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Newtown Rotary Club, and a member of the Western Connecticut Estate and Taxplanning Council. He is also co-host and co-producer of a cable television show entitled Family Finance.

A resident of Sandy Hook, Mr Clavette earned his accounting degree at Western Connecticut State University.

Now in its 95th year, the CSCPA has a current membership of more than 6,200 individuals in public practice, business and industry, government, and education. Its function is to provide continuing professional education opportunities, a comprehensive peer review program, and a variety of membership services for CPAs in Connecticut.
