Jack R. Leake, 72, of 74 Main Street, Woodbury, died on June 14 at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Carol (Eckholm) Leake. Mr Leake was a resident of Newtown from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s.
He was a local residential and commercial building contractor who built everything from custom homes to shopping centers. Jack was not only a gifted carpenter, but also a true craftsman.
Mr Leake was born May 18, 1933, in Bridgeport, son of the late Dorothy (Sawyer) and Raleigh Leake. He was a graduate of Bullard Havens and a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Besides his wife of 49 years, he leaves two sons, Norman Leake of Watertown and Russell Leake of Oxford; two daughters, Melissa and Jennifer Leake of Woodbury; a sister, Dorothy Jordano of Milford; eight grandchildren, Crystal, Corey, Kayla, Kyle, Justin, Hannah, Sonny, and Michael; one great-grandchild, Madison; a daughter-in-law, Donna Leake; and a son-in-law, Don Zemo. He was predeceased by a son, Jackie Leake, and a brother, Robert Leake.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School Street, Southbury, at noon. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
