Nicholas Arthur Rambone, 98, of Danbury, died June 25. Mr Rambone was the husband of the late Margaret (Hickson) Rambone. He was born in Hellâs Kitchen, Manhattan, on November 14, 1909, a son of Costabile and Mary (DiPietro) Rambone.
Mr Rambone is survived by two sons, Stephen Rambone of Newtown and Robert Rambone of Montpelier, Vt.; a daughter, Joanne Rambone Creeden of Litchfield; and a sister, Gloria Salomone of Pleasantville, N.Y. He was the proud grandfather of Chris, James, Lane, Matthew, Michael, Allison, Corey, and Bridget.
He graduated from Manhattan College with a bachelor of science in engineering in 1932 and with a masterâs degree in civil engineering in 1933. He served as a second lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr Rambone retired in 1983 in New York as a professional engineer from Naclerio Contracting Company. In his long career he worked on many bridge, tunnel, and highway construction projects in the metropolitan area, including the Henry Hudson Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, and Delaware Aqueduct Tunnel. Other projects included LaGuardia Airport, and the Worldâs Fair of 1939. Due to his involvement with public works projects, he worked closely with New York Cityâs âmaster builder,â Robert Moses. Mr Rambone was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 15 D, New York City.
He raised his family in Eastchester and Scarsdale, N.Y., and was a volunteer for the Eastchester Fire Department, a president of the Holy Name Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, and served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 2 in Scarsdale. He was past president of Manhattan College Alumni Association, Westchester Chapter.
He was an avid golfer, playing into his 95th year. He was a member of the Richter Park Senior Menâs Club. For the last 25 years he made his home on Candlewood Lake and enjoyed summer, sun, lawn and garden work, and family cookouts. He was a dedicated father who put love of family above all else. He will be missed by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury, Saturday, June 28, at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
