What A Town Clerk Does

To the Editor:

The most frequent question I have been asked during my campaigning is, “What does the town clerk do?”

The town clerk is the registrar of vital statistics for our town. The position is governed by state statutes. The office requires organization and accuracy. Some of the responsibilities include: land records, marriage, birth, and death certificates, dog licenses, hunting and fishing licenses (currently not available in Newtown), and absentee ballots.

I have always been a self-directed learner. I do extensive research then take courses to enhance my understanding. I have a BA in political science with a master’s in elementary education from Sacred Heart University.

I am currently a second grade teacher and a technology integration specialist. In addition to my full-time job, I take college courses to keep current in the ever-changing field of technology. I also find time to do my volunteer work.

To balance these demands requires me to be very organized and to pay very strict attention to details.

I have developed a website, www.voteframpton.com, to assist the citizens of Newtown in learning about me. Please visit my website often as I will continue to update and add enhancements. Your vote will make a difference on November 3.

Thank You,

Sara Frampton

Democratic Candidate for Town Clerk

6 Pebble Road, Newtown                                            October 14, 2009
