Dorothy H. Glover

Dorothy (Haight) Glover, 94, of Main Street, Newtown, wife of the late Walter L. Glover, a former Newtown selectman and first fire marshal of Newtown, died at Bethel Health Care, Bethel, on July 27.

She was born in Nutley, N.J., January 9, 1906, the only daughter of the late Ernest V. and C. May (Hoyt) Haight of Ridgefield. She was predeceased by three brothers, Alden, Edward, and Ernest Haight, Jr. After moving to the Hoyt family home in Ridgefield, she graduated from Ridgefield High School. Upon her marriage in 1926, she moved to the Glover homestead, Glover Avenue, Newtown.

Mrs Glover became a member of Trinity Church, Newtown. In the late 1940s she was employed as a telephone operator by SNET at their Newtown office at 40 Main Street. She was a professional in the role she knew best, that of a wife, mother, nanny, and caregiver to her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan G. Crick and son-in-law, James W. Crick, Jr, of 7 Glover Avenue, Newtown; a son, Lee W. Glover, Sr, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Glover of Heritage Village, Southbury; one granddaughter, Maureen (Crick) Owen of Newtown; four grandsons, James Crick, III, of Hilton Head, S.C., Michael Crick of Waterbury, Lee W. Glover, Jr, of Newtown, and Charles Glover of Grand Ronde, Ore.; a step-granddaughter, Susan Carlson of Macon, Ga.; and two step-grandsons, Marc and Timothy Ennis of St Louis, Mo. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, James Crick, IIII, Emily Jane Crick; Matthew, William, Benjamin, Mitchell, and Adam Crick; Nicole and Jacob Glover; a sister-in-law, Ruth Haight of Upton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held August 1 at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, with the Rev Nancy Gossling, former resident of Newtown and deacon of St Paul Church, Riverside, officiating. Interment was in Newtown Village Cemetery.
