KATHARINA RICH PERLOW GALLERY TOM FERRARA
ak/gs set 4/23 #736916
NEW YORK CITY â The Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery will present a solo exhibition of Tom Ferraraâs new paintings, which are part of an ongoing exploration of his own language of abstraction, from May 3 to 29.
Ferrara reflects upon the unpredictability of a multifaceted world in his new work. He creates a certain sensation of volatility, emphasizing the contradiction of vertical and horizontal action, which he than heightens by juxtapositioning color â both warm and cool. These new paintings show a greater freedom of line and form; one of the central themes in this new body of work is physics.
Ferrara was Willem de Kooningâs primary studio assistant from 1979 to 1987 and is excerpted throughout the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography de Kooning, An American Master by Mark Stevens and Annalyn Swan. Ferraraâs lush background in the language of abstract painting allows him to fully explore the possibilities of abstraction in his work.
The artist has been included in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions such as the Columbus Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institute, Albright Knox Collectorâs Gallery, Guild Hall. He is in several corporate and private collections, such as Time-Warner Inc, Republic National Bank, PepsiCo, Four Seasons Hotel, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, Teterboro Airport.
Ferrara will be teaching a course in painting at the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts in the month of May, coinciding with his show in the gallery.
Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery is at 41 East 57th Street, in the Fuller Building. For information, 212-644-7171.
