Painter June Parker At Next SCAN Meeting
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have June Parker of Egremont, Mass., as its guest artist during its next meeting.
The group will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, at 31 Main Street, on Wednesday, August 24. The meeting and Ms Parkerâs program will begin at 1:30 pm, and the public is welcome free of charge.
Ms Parker will demonstrate painting a landscape in pastel.
June Parkerâs luminous pastel paintings have earned her a host of major awards including the New England Heritage Award from the Academic Artist Association in Springfield, Mass., as well as awards from the American Artists Professional League and the Pastel Society of America in New York City.
She was awarded first prize in the New Britain Museum of American Art juried membersâ show, and best in show and numerous other prizes from Kent Art Association and Sheffield Art League. She is listed in Marquis Whoâs Who in American Art.
Ms Parker has completed more than 100 commissions for portraits of both people and buildings. Her work is in private and corporate collections in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia, including the Fox Valley Corporate in Wisconsin, Berkshire Bank, Caanan National Bank, and Wyantenuck Country Club.
Her painting âRiver Bankâ is included in the book Art and the River on the beauty and preservation of the Housatonic River published by the Sheffield Art League.
She has taught workshops at Norman Rockwell Museum and Sheffield Art League and is currently teaching at the Art School of the Berkshires in Interlaken, Mass.
