FCC Offers Workshop On

Seasonal Affective Disorder

The Family Counseling Center will offer a timely topic, “Seasonal Affective Disorder,” or SAD, for its free January 16 public workshop. The workshop will be held in the Community Meeting Room of the C.H. Booth Library, Newtown, at 7 pm.

SAD may affect over 10 million Americans while the milder “winter blues” may affect a larger number of individuals. Typical symptoms of SAD may include increased irritability, difficulty sleeping, a lack of energy, a decreased ability to concentrate, and a general feeling of being sad. These symptoms are specifically worse in the winter months.

Amy Singer, LSCW, a therapist with the Family Counseling Center, will lead the workshop. She will teach how to recognize the symptoms of SAD, and what kinds of treatments are available.

The Family Counseling Center is a licensed and accredited non-profit mental health agency in Newtown offering counseling for families and individuals in the Greater Danbury area. For information on any of the workshops, call the Family Counseling Center at 426-8103.
