Moms Club Of Brookfield East & Newtown Planning Open House

BROOKFIELD — The MOMS Club of Brookfield East & Newtown will host an open house Thursday, May 22, at 10 am, at The Brookfield Library, 182 Whisconier Road.

Stay at home moms of Brookfield and Newtown are invited to come meet other local moms, make new friends, and see what the MOMS Club is all about. There will be activities for the children and a slideshow and conversation for the moms. Refreshments will be served.

MOMS Club is an international support group for mothers providing a wide range of activities for local moms and their children.

“We host monthly meetings with guest speakers and topics for discussion, organized playgroups, special outings for mothers and their children, and holiday activities,” said Andrea DiStephan, president of the local chapter.

In addition, the group performs service projects benefiting needy children in the community.

“We are very fortunate to be at-home mothers and we are eager to help when and where we can. In 2007, we raised almost $2,000 for the Revlon Walk to fight women’s cancers, $1,400 for the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury in the first annual Community United Against Domestic Violence Walk, and our children made a donation of one of their stuffed animals to the Share-a-Bear program, teaching our children how important it is to help when we can,” said Mrs DiStephan. “This year we are walking in the Relay For Life of Newtown and have already raised $1,000.”

Most activities are held during the day and mothers may bring their children with them to everything the group does.

“Evenings and weekends are family time,” Mrs DiStephan explained. “Our meetings and activities are during the day because that’s when at-home mothers can feel the most isolated.”
