Devoted Mother And Grandmother

Regina R. Smith, 88, of Monroe, beloved wife of the late Irving L. Smith, died February 3, at Maefair Nursing Home in Trumbull, after a long, hard-fought battle with Lewy body dementia. Born Regina Rose Brown, March 26, 1922, in Burnice, Penn., to Rose (Weed) and Edwin Brown, her family moved to Connecticut in the late 1920s.

Two children, including Dawn R Veccherelli Swendsen of Newtown and Monroe; two beloved grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, nieces, nephews, and good friends, including David Wang who helped in her care, survive Mrs Smith. Four siblings predeceased her.

Mrs Smith was a homemaker, local artist, and tax collector in Monroe for many years, before her retirement in 1987.

Her interests included family and friends, enjoying her grandchildren, baking, painting, and crafts. She enjoyed teaching friends the joy of sewing over the years.

Mrs Smith was a member of Monroe Congregational Church for many years.

A memorial service took place February 7.
