Hiking The Hills And Valleys Of Aspetuck Land Trust

WESTON — With no leaves on the trees, the basic landscape of the Aspetuck Land Trust’s Crow Hill and Jump Hill preserves and Trout Brook Valley – a preserve which a coalition of conservationists worked to protect from development – should be revealed during a moderately strenuous ten-mile hike scheduled for Sunday, December 3, from 9 am to 3 pm.

Natural history guides Stu Cummings, Len Horowitz, and Anne Maio will lead “Hills and Valleys,” an adventure along new sections of the Saugatuck Valley Trails System.

Carpooling from an off-site parking area in Weston to the start, participants will enjoy a high swamp overlook from a rocky crest at the Aspetuck Land Trust’s Jump Hill Preserve. They will then traverse some of the expanded network of trails at Trout Brook Valley and sidetrack into the Trust’s adjacent Crow Hill Preserve before hiking past Devil’s Glen back towards the reservoir and the parking area.

Along the route they will enjoy a younger forest that is different from the more established Devil’s Den and plenty of stream and reservoir views.

Hikers should bring a snack lunch and water, and wear layered clothing. Call the Devil’s Den office weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm for information, directions to the meeting location, and reservations for the free program.
