*âMany Moods Through Time and Change:â Local artist Marie Marotto is exhibiting some of her favorite oil and watercolors paintings through July 30 in the meeting room during regular library hours.
The public is invited to meet the artist and enjoy her work during an artistâs reception planned for Saturday, July 11, from 2 to 4 pm.
Childrenâs Programs
*Monday Afternoon Crafts: Marie Walker is conducting one-hour craft workshops on Mondays until August 3. The workshops begin at 3:30 each week and are for ages 6 and up.
Sign need to be done in person at the childrenâs desk. A $3 material fee is due upon registration.
*Stories with Curtis: Popular story teller Curtis Urbina is back with his unique sense of humor and love of stories on Tuesday mornings at 10 pm in the library meeting room.
Curtis is a member of the National Storytelling Network (NSN) who loves to tell stories because it is fun and exciting for everyone. His greatest gift is finding the four year old in each of us. Recommended for ages 4-6, there is no registration. Just be ready to have fun.
*A Five-Session Ghost Story: John Renjillian will read Stonewords: A Ghost Story, Pam Conradâs award winning mystery, in five sessions from 1 to 2 pm, in the story hour room beginning July 14.
No registration required. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
*Feeling the Beat, Feeling the Spirit: Educator, musician and naturalist John Root will play a variety of instruments both traditional and homemade on Friday, July 17, at 3:30 pm. This will be a music and movement program the entire family will enjoy.
The program is for ages 4 and up and registration can be done online (CHBoothLibrary.org).
*PJ Story Time: PJ Story Time has moved to Tuesday evenings (July 7-28 and August 4) at 6:30 pm in the library meeting room.
Each week we will feature a puppet play along with songs stories and generally silliness just before bedtime. Bring your blanket, pajamas encouraged. Recommended for ages 3-7, no registration required.
*Reading With Hooper: Join us for three childrenâs story hours hosted by Hooper, a yellow Labrador Retriever.
Hooper is a certified reading buddy and pet therapy partner with his human mom, Jane Paley, an assistant professor at St Johnâs University in New York. The pair visits schools and libraries sharing favorite books.
Both Library sessions will take place at 11 am in the Childrenâs Library on July 18, July 25 and August 3.
In addition to reading some favorite dog stories, Ms Paley will share Hooperâs story as well. She and her husband rescued him in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The couple traveled to Richmond, Va., to collect him from a volunteer who found him in a shelter in a New Orleans suburb. He was sickly and scared at first but now, says his mom, âHooper is enjoying a cushy life in Easton and he loves visiting local libraries!â
Young Adult Programs
 *Needle Felting Crafts with Katie Stevenson will allow participants to create small whimsical objects and decorative projects that are really special, using special sharp needles.
The July 29 workshop is for rising grades 5-12 (ages 10-18). Â Space is limited to 15 young people, with preference given to Newtown students and residents.
A supply fee of $6 is payable at program. Bring a thimble that fits on the index finger of your non-dominant hand (available in quilt shops). Details and signups are available at biblio.org/YAWebSpot.
 *Duct Tape Crafts: Roll Out The Fun!
Students sages 10 and up (rising grades 5-12) can join Katie Stevenson on Wednesday, July 15, from 2 to 4 pm, for Duct Tape Crafts. Participants can make bags, a purse, an iPod holder, a tool belt and more.
The group is limited to 15 students, with preference given to Newtown residents. There is a $6 supply fee that can be paid at the time of the program, but early registration is definitely suggested.
 *Chess Club meets all summer with Glenn Budzinski. Boards and pieces are provided Drop in and play chess on Saturday afternoons from 1 to 5 pm on the third floor.
*âTweens & Teens Summer Reading is underway! Young people entering grades 6-12 can participate by simply filling out a short form each time you finish a book, and dropping it in the jar in the YA area.
Every Monday we have a drawing and give away five prizes from local merchants â gift certificates for food, merchandise and entertainment. Details are online at the biblio.org/YAWebSpot.
Adult Programs
*Book Groups: The Daytime Group will talk about Fifth Business by Robertson Davies on Monday, July 13, at 1 pm.
*Play Ball! Julie Stern is leading a summer book series on Americaâs favorite past time, baseball. This discussion series is for both baseball fans and those who love a good story. Programs are Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:30 pm.
The final program in the series will cover Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella on July 14.
*Chess Lessons for Adults will begin on Thursday, July 23, at 7 pm, for five consecutive weeks. Glenn Budzinski will teach intermediate chess lessons.. The lessons are free but space is limited.
*Be Ready For The Next Sunny Day: Author Jan Mann will be at the library on Thursday, July 30, to discuss her book on summertime fun. Cruising Connecticut with a Picnic Basket combines an eclectic selection of places to visit with the fine art of picnicking. From hunting spring wildflowers to wine tasting, from hiking and biking on miles of trails to tubing and kayaking on our waterways, fro homesteads to unique museums, and even picnicking in the middle and shopping trip or at the theater, there are countless options.
