Christmas Tree Event Traffic And Parking Rules

The town will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on the Ram Pasture off South Main Street at 6:30 pm on Friday, December 2.

Police have set a series of traffic and parking rules for that area from 4 to 8 pm that day.

Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to travel on Elm Drive between Sugar Street and Borough Lane during that period. Other traffic will be prohibited there.

Police have established a group of “No Parking” areas where parking will be banned during that period. They are: Elm Drive between its intersections with Sugar Street and Borough Lane; Hawley Road; the northbound side of South Main Street between its intersections with Borough Lane and Glover Avenue; Sugar Street between its intersections with South Main Street and Elm Drive; and the driveway that extends to Town Hall South from Sugar Street.

The “No Parking” zones will be clearly marked. Police officers will be on hand to assist pedestrians and direct traffic in the area.

A very limited amount of parking will be available for handicapped persons in front of the Newtown Village Cemetery gates on Elm Drive and also along Deep Brook Road, near its intersection with Elm Drive.
