Cherokee Vs Cherokee

Police report an accident involving two sport-utility vehicles at the intersection of Queen Street and Wasserman Way about 6:30 pm March 2.

Motorist Timothy Barrett, 20, of 5 Black Walnut Drive, who was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was stopped behind motorist Linda Scianna, 52, of 12 Bridge End Farm Lane, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was stopped at a stop sign at the southern end of Queen Street, police said.

The 1995 Jeep then struck the 1997 Jeep from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Barrett a written warning for following too closely.

Boulevard/Church Hill

About 8 am February 23, motorist Patricia Hilgert, 57, of 10 Hall Lane, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry southward on The Boulevard, planned to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police report.

At that time, motorist Fernanda Tenreiro, 51, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Honda Civic, was exiting a parking lot on Church Hill Road and planning to drive northward on The Boulevard, police said.

Both vehicles entered Church Hill Road and collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Hilgert a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Toyota Off Road

Motorist Darren Thompson, 26, of New Milford, who was driving a 1991 Toyota Tercel westward near 16 Swamp Road about 10 am March 2, slid on the icy road, went out of control, spun around and went off the right road shoulder, striking a tree, police report.

Thompson was not injured. Police issued Thompson a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Chrysler Vs Ford

Police report a two-car collision at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street about 2:30 pm February 28.

Motorist Jamie Rood, 17, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Chrysler Sebring carrying three teenage passengers, was stopped at a stop sign on Church Hill Road and was waiting to turn left onto southbound Main Street, as motorist Philip Ullrich, 20, of 6 Brassie Road was driving a 1989 Ford Thunderbird southward on Main Street, police said.

As the Chrysler was making the left turn, the two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Rood a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle crash about 4:30 pm March 2 at a driveway at 119 Mt Pleasant Road.

Motorist Jose Firmiano, 37, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1995 Mazda Millenia, was attempting to pull out from the driveway onto Mt Pleasant Road, when the Mazda collided with an eastbound 2001 Honda Passport driven by Patricia Koestner, 53, of 6 Beckett Village, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Firmiano a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

The Boulevard

Motorist Renate Oebel, 70, of 178 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring southward on The Boulevard about 3 pm March 3, stopped at a stop sign at The Boulevard’s intersection with Church Hill Road, according to police.

At that time, motorist Krishna Patel, 17, of 2 Stone Fence Lane was driving a 1995 Suzuki sedan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

As the Chrysler was making a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, the Chrysler and the Suzuki collided, police said. There were no injuries. Oebel received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, police said.

Sandy Hook Collision

At about noon on March 3, motorist Justin Alter, 19, of 67 Cypress Trail was driving a 1996 Dodge sedan northward on Bancroft Road, as motorist Karen Hensel, 38, of 11 Round Hill Road was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban sport-utility vehicle eastward on Riverside Road, police said.

The Dodge then started turning left onto westbound Riverside Road, causing the Chevrolet to swerve to avoid an impact, police said. The Dodge skidded to a stop, but struck the Chevrolet, after which the Chevrolet traveled onward, went off the westbound road shoulder of Riverside Road and then hit a utility pole, police said.

Police said there were no injuries. Police issued Alter an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Wanted

Newtown police report that while on patrol about 7 am March 5, they spotted motorist Robert Boylhart, 40, of New Milford driving an auto with an illegally tinted window tint southward on South Main Street, so they stopped him near Sand Hill Plaza to investigate.

A records check indicated that New Milford police wanted Boylhart on an arrest warrant, Newtown police said.

Charges of second degree failure to appear in court and disorderly conduct were filed against Boylhart, according to police.

New Milford police picked up Boylhart at the Newtown police station to process his arrest.

Double Burglary

Police said they are investigating burglaries that occurred at a barn and an adjacent outbuilding near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Settlers Lane sometime between February 28 and March 2. Police learned of the incident about 4 pm March 5. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact police at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Suspended License

At about 7 pm March 5, police encountered motorist David Kaza, 23, of 4 Clearview Drive stopped on Button Shop Road with the hazard lights flashing on his vehicle, so they stopped to investigate.

Police said Kaza told them that he had stopped to search for an object. An investigation indicated that Kaza’s driver’s license was under suspension, police said.

Police charged Kaza with driving while under suspension, after which he posted $100 bail and was scheduled for a March 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Newtown police said they then released Kaza into the custody of Bridgeport police who held a warrant for his arrest.

Faulty Headlamp

Police report that while on patrol about 11:22 pm March 5, they spotted motorist Andrew Lambo, 18, of 8 Country Squire Road driving westward on Church Hill Road in a vehicle that had a broken headlamp, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Lambo with driving with a faulty headlamp and with driving while under suspension.

After posting $100 bail, police released Lambo on $100 bail for a March 15 court appearance.

Audi Off Road

Motorist Rebecca Steinkraus, 43, of 22 Walker Hill Road was driving a 1999 Audi A-4 northward on Great Ring Road about 1 am February 27, when an animal entered the road, causing Steinkraus to swerve to the left to avoid a collision, police said.

The Audi went off the  southbound road shoulder and hit some guardrailing and a tree, police said. Steinkraus was not injured. Police said they issued Steinkraus an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Saturn Vs Tanker

Police report an accident involving a sedan and a fuel tanker at the intersection of Jeremiah Road and Fawnwood Road about 10 am March 5.

Trucker Dennis Larney, Jr, 43, of Seymour was driving a 2005 Peterbilt fuel tanker, which is owned by Massey Fuel Inc of Bridgeport, westward on Jeremiah Road and then stopped to make a left turn onto Fawnwood Road, police said.

Westbound motorist Jill Privalsky, 25, of 16 Orange Pippin Road, who was driving a 2004 Saturn Ion sedan, then struck the tanker from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Privalsky a written warning for following too closely.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Margaret Bowers of 3 Liberty Drive, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Maxima westward on Sugar Street, was stopped near 55 Sugar Street for an eastbound school bus at about 9:30 am March 2, according to police.

Westbound motorist Henry McDermott, 72, of 3-A Nunnawauk Meadows, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla, tried to stop but slid on the icy road and struck the rear end of the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued McDermott a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Arrest

Police said they located and stopped motorist Joseph Bardelli, 34, of Derby on Route 25 about 8 pm March 4, after he was involved in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 25 and Swamp Road, but kept driving. There were no injuries in the accident, police said.

Police said Bardelli refused to take field sobriety tests. Police charged Bardelli with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right.

After Bardelli posted $500 bail, police released him for a March 22 arraignment on the charges at Danbury Superior Court.

Moving Violations

Police report they spotted motorist Roberto Melendez, 27, of Bridgeport driving northward on Queen Street with an expired vehicle registration sticker at about 7 am March 7, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Melendez with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Melendez on a promise to appear  March 17 in Danbury Superior Court.

Home Improvement

On the night of March 7, Newtown police charged Bill R. Leon, 39, of 357 Hammertown Road, Monroe, with one count of second degree failure to appear in court, with two counts of violation of the requirements of home improvement contracts, and with two counts of sales agreement violations.

The original charges stem from a 2004 complaint against Leon filed by a Sandy Hook property owner, police said. State consumer protection officials investigated that complaint.

After he posted $10,000 bail, Newtown police released Leon for a March 22 court appearance on the five counts.

Newtown police then handed over Leon to Trumbull police who wanted him in connection with another matter.

Weapon In School

On the morning of March 7, after Newtown High School administrators confiscated a folding “butterfly” knife from student William Sherman, 17, of 43 Orchard Hill Road, the administrators contacted police.

Police said they investigated and charged Sherman with possession of a weapon on school grounds, which is a felony.

Police said they released Sherman into the custody of parents for a March 16 court appearance.

Reckless Driving

Police said they executed an arrest warrant in Monroe on the night of March 7 against Daniel Guglielmoni, 43, of Monroe, charging him with reckless driving in connection with a May 7, 2004, motorcycle accident on Swamp Road. Police released Guglielmoni on a promise to appear in court on March 22.

Route 25 Accident

Motorist Jorge Correa, 36, of Longwood, Fla., was driving a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder northward on a snowy Route 25 about 11 pm March 8, when he lost control of the vehicle and slid on the slippery road, spun around, and then struck a tree alongside the southbound road shoulder, police said.

Correa reported head pain and was checked at the scene by ambulance volunteers, police said. Passenger Michael Aguilar, 21, of Port Chester, N.Y., reported shoulder pain, police said.

Police issued Correa a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Collision

At about 12:43 pm March 8 in snowy conditions, motorist Mandy Tolson, 40, of 168 Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Honda Odyssey minivan, was maneuvering to avoid a noncontact vehicle that was sliding toward the Honda near the intersection of Hattertown and Wiley roads, police said.

Motorist Shaun Smith-Rippeon, 23, of Frederick, Md., who was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck, then collided with the Honda and with some guard cabling, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Smith-Rippeon for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hyundai Vs Nissan

Eastbound motorist Kathleen Siciliano, 54, of Redding, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Maxima near 184 Sugar Street about 8:25 am March 9, stopped for a westbound school bus that was stopping to pick up some schoolchildren, police said.

Eastbound motorist Jordan Liker, 17, of 62 Birch Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Hyundai Sonata, attempted to stop, but slid on the snowy road, striking the rear end of the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Liker a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Swamp Road Mishap

Motorist Susann Fernandez, 44, of Bridgeport was driving a 1998 GMC Safari northward near 41 Swamp Road about 11:53 am March 8, when she lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road and struck a tree alongside the southbound road shoulder, police said. Fernandez was not injured. Police issued her a written warning.

Truck Vs SUV

At about 1 pm March 8 in snowy conditions, motorist Linda Biscoe, 41, of 47 Old Hawleyville Road, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle, was stopped in a left-turn lane at a traffic signal on westbound Church Hill Road and waiting to turn left onto Queen Street, police said.

At that time, tractor-trailer truck driver Steven Friedrich, 53, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1999 Freightliner milk tanker, was turning right from northbound Queen Street onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police said.

As the tanker truck turned right, its front bumper struck the left-side doors of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Friedrich a written warning.
