St Rose Christmas Boutique Returning

The Annual St Rose Christmas Boutique will be held Friday, December 6, from 6 to 10 pm; Saturday, December 5, 10 am to 7 pm; and Sunday, December 6, 8 am to 2 pm, in the churchâs parish hall on Church Hill Road. A Menâs Night will be offered on Wednesday, December 2, at 7 pm.

Friday evening will be the gala opening. A $5 admission will be charged, and shoppers will be treated to wine and cheese, desserts and live entertainment.

Admission the remainder of the weekend is free.

The boutique will offer Santas, wreaths, nativity sets, gifts for teachers and friends, toys and books for children, a large variety of ornaments, and an Irish booth.

The Candy Cane CafÃ© will be open on Saturday from 11:30 am until 2:30 pm, and will reopen on Sunday.

The boutique is being coordinated by Monsignor Robert Weiss, Peggy Baiad and Pat Philipp.

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
