First Aid For Pets

BRIDGEPORT — Only certain Red Cross chapters across the country offer Pet First Aid, and just four Connecticut chapters provide the program.

Fairfield County residents have their next opportunity to learn more about keeping their pets health and safe by attending “Pet First Aid/CPR,” a presentation on Saturday, October 15, at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue. The program will run from 1 to 4 pm.

Trained instructors will help pet owners learn about everything from providing daily care to acting in an emergency. Specifically they will discuss recognizing an emergency, administering medications, performing CPR and first aid, treating common problems and emergencies requiring immediate attention, checking an animal’s pulse, and stocking a pet first aid kit.

Topics may also include dealing with a tick bite, coping with a collapse or car accident, and detecting and avoiding heat-related illnesses.

Cost is $25, seating is limited, and pets are not allowed.

Pre-registration is required by calling the American Red Cross at 203-576-1010.
