"Summer Shorts," a special limited-run production of one-act plays, opens Friday, August 26, at 8 pm, at Town Players of Newtown's Little Theatre.

Written and previously performed by The Garner Players of Garner Correctional Institute of Newtown, these plays reveal a depth of talent, variety and insight from these new playwrights. Several former members of The Garner Players are directing and performing in this production as their debut performances in community theater. The entertaining and insightful works give voice to the experience of otherwise silent members of the community.

The plays include Was The Word by Mark Aldrich and Henry M., Misery Needs Company by J.V. Harvey, Culture Wars by Mr Aldrich, The Right Thing by Marquis, and Can You Spare A Few Quarters? also by J.V. Harvey.

Directors include Mr Aldrich, Mr Harvey and Timothy Huebenthal. "Summer Shorts" includes the performing talents of Mr Aldrich and Mr Huebenthel, as well as Ken Anderson, Tony Benedetti, Maggi Heilweil, Terry Polvay and Jeff Rossman.

"Summer Shorts" will be presented weekends, August 26-September 3. Curtain is Fridays and Saturdays, with one Sunday matinee on August 28 at 2 pm.

Tickets are $10 (free for members of Town Players), and can be reserved by calling 203-270-9144 or visiting newtownplayers.org. The Little Theatre is at 18 Orchard Hill Road.
