Programs At Danbury Library

DANBURY — The Danbury Library Junior Department invites kids in grades 4-6 to a “Spiderwick Trivia and Faeries 101” program to precede the upcoming release of The Spiderwick Chronicles movie.

The program will be held on Wednesday, February 13, from 3:30 to 5 pm, to test the knowledge of Spiderwick readers in a variety of fun activities. Kids will test their deductive reasoning skills and their book character knowledge with a “Faerie Challenge” and trivia game. Participants will also use their art talents in making a wood elf mask.

The Spiderwick Chronicles is a popular series of five illustrated children’s fantasy books written by Holly Black and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi. All participants will be entered for a chance to win tickets to see the upcoming movie, which is being produced by Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies.

The program is free, but registration is required to insure adequate supplies. Call 797-4528 or visit DanburyLibrary.org/KidZone.

The following week children in grades 2-4 are invited to spend the afternoon enjoying “Nate the Great” activities. The library will host “A Mystery Date with Nate the Great”  on Tuesday, February 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.

Guests will test their knowledge of the “Nate the Great” mystery book characters and unscramble a mystery.  Kids will help Nate find missing pets and search the library for Nate’s crime-solving dog partner, Sludge. Attendees will also enjoy some very mysterious snacks.

The “Nate the Great” series began in 1972 by author Marjorie Weinman Sharmat.  Several of the books have been made into television movies and selected as Books of the Year by the Library of Congress.

The program is free; registration is required by calling 797-4528. Danbury Library is at 170 Main Street.
