More Power To The Marriage Debate

To the Editor:

Is gay marriage so bad? I say no. I believe that without equality within our laws there is no reason to be even called a free country. Well that is all this law does, it gives a chance for equality and freedom to those who didn’t have it. So what if gays get married, they are not any different than any other couple.

I am a junior at Newtown High School, 18, a prominent member of the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) and I am also gay. So what! I say more power to the marriage debate, and not just because I am gay but because it is the right thing to do. If we were to give the kids (the forgotten statistic of this town) a chance to view their ideas, on this issue, I believe whole-heartedly that it would get the parents of this town thinking.

I hope one day to be able to walk down the roads of Newtown with my boyfriend and not get stared at, or even just walk down the halls of the school and not get a rude comment thrown at me everyday. I know that this will not happen in the time I have left here in Newtown before I go to college, but at least I know that people will carry the torch that was lit from beyond the time that I came to this town.
