Coffee House Concert By Sirius Coyote

SOUTH BRITAIN — Connecticut-based Sirius Coyote, a band that brings together the sounds of the cultures of the Americas with those of the high deserts and rainforests and the dance rhythms of the Caribbean, will be at Gate House Coffee House on Sunday, July 21. The 3 pm performance is free and open to all.

The coffee house series is presented outdoors at the café located on the grounds of South Britain Training School, on Route 172. In the event of rain, shows move to a nearby pavilion.

Sirius Coyote members are Giovanni Ciarlo on guitar, lead vocals and percussion, Kathleen Sartor on percussion and vocals, Dennis Waring on clarinet, saxophone, flute and vocals, and Ed Witkin on keyboard, banjo, concertina and vocals.

The band presents family-oriented concerts that celebrate the preservation of traditional cultures, ecological awareness and the creative spirit of community. Concerts include Latin American songs and stories taken from Sirius Coyote’s repertoire of original and traditional music played on over 30 instruments from the group’s collection.

Songs also include pre-Columbian and modern pieces that focus on the environment. Audience participation is encouraged through singing along, clapping, dancing, and music-making. Songs are performed in Spanish, with English introductions and translations.
