Town Hires An Assistant Engineer
BY STEVE BIGHAM
David Bratz has been hired by the town to fill the newly formed position of
assistant town engineer. He will start Thursday, July 1.
Mr Bratz, a native of Newtown, will work under the direction of Town Engineer
Ron Bolmer, who will now spend more of his time on road reconstruction design.
"I'm up to my eyeballs in work, and I can't catch up," Mr Bolmer said. "I'm
trying to get projects out, but there are a lot of applications from land use,
small stuff like driveway inspections and road excavation work."
These smaller projects will now fall under the responsibility of Mr Bratz, who
will take on many of the duties of the road agent, as well as review
development applications.
The new position will pay an annual salary of $44,000. However, it is not an
added cost since Mr Bratz will be doing work that the town had been forced to
contract to outside firms.
"Hopefully we'll be able to do more in-house design and do our field work in
here. This new position should actually save the town money," Mr Bolmer said.
The town has also hired Nancy Kokoski as secretary for the fire marshal's
office. She takes over for Kate Valentine, who stepped down last week.
The town is also seeking to fill the newly-created position of assistant
building inspector, as well as building department secretary.
