Montessori Mural Day

“Paint In Motion” was the theme of the morning at The Fraser-Woods school’s annual Lower School  Mural Day. Toddlers through age 5 were invited on Saturday morning, January 6, to participate in creating colorful wall panels to brighten the schools hallways.

The Montessori Method encourages children to be self-motivated and generative in their thinking.  Primary colors were offered to create fields of abstract shapes. The children were asked to pretend that their brushes were dancing, running, or skipping across the page.

They were then asked to etch a drawing with the opposite end of their paint brushes. Friends were helping friends mix colors and build ideas and parents offered their thoughts. More than 50 children and parents participated in the creation of five beautifully colored panels, which are now framed and hung in the hallways of the school.

Jen Travis, Fraser-Woods mother, coordinated the morning for the children and their parents to have fun together.
