Laura Schroeder provided an assist as Elaine McCafferty and Kristen DeCesare were strong on defense.
STRIKERS 2, TITANS 0: Elizabeth LaPerch and Courtney Brunton scored goals to lift the Strikers over the Titans. Amanda Nostrand provided strong midfield support. For the Titans, goalie Erin Daily and Vanessa Hansen played well on defense.
GIRLS E DIVISION
TORPEDOES 0, RAPIDS 0: Anna Marie Unschold and Gina Pisacreta led the defense for the Torpedoes and Rebecca Carrafiello powered the offense, almost scoring the only goal on a breakaway. For the Rapids, Theresa Bibeau and Sarah Peck were solid on defense and Libby Feltch and Christine Beck had great games.
TORPEDOES 3, TIGERS 2: Rebecca Reed, Emily Boncek and Laura Doyon (penalty kick) all scored goals as the Torpedoes upended the Tigers. For the Tigers, Devon Ferris and Jordan Good scored while Sarah Shannon had a great game.
NIGHTMARE 2, TIGERS 0: Megan Kelly and Emily Lockhart scored the goals that lifted the Nightmare to the win. Kelsey Phillips turned in an assist. For the Tigers, Sarah Shannon, Jordan Good and Marnie Thompson had good games.
PANDA BEARS 2, NIGHTMARES 0: Meghan Barbour scored a pair of goals to lead the Panda Bears past the Nightmares. Taylor Truchess and Allison Lehrer played well. For the Nightmares, Meghan Kelly, Lisa Favicchia and Kristen Gucciardo all had good games.
PANDA BEARS 1, TIGERS 1: Meghan Barbour of the Panda Bears and Stephanie Soder of the Tigers scored one goal each in a tie. For the Bears, Jocelyn Pasko and Nicole Frey were strong on defense. For the Tigers, Danielle Norris, Gillian Spies, and Belle Hydock played well.
RAPTORS 2, BOMBERS 2: Jen Brewer scored a pair of goals for the Raptors and Kasey Schulz scored a pair for the Bombers in this 2-2 deadlock. For the Raptors, Jen Brill and Chelsea Liker supported the offense. For the Bo,bers, Lindsey Lively and Katherine Stanton had assists while Sara Kelly anchored the defense.
BOYS E DIVISION
CHEETAHS 2, COYOTES 1: Michael Bunger and Michael Whitley-Rodriguez scored toe lead the Cheetahs over the Coyotes. Ian Cooper did a nice job in goal and Dave Klanica was strong on defense. For the Coyotes, Gabriel Giusti scored the goal while Patrick Stein had a solid game in goal and Brett Balmforth put in a nice performance.
LIGHTNING 3, CHEETAHS 0: Ryan Hudock, Doug MacLeod and Brandon McGuinn all scored to lead the Lightning to the win. Oskar Dean and Colin Tredger turned in good overall games. For the Cheetahs, Matthew Samuelson was solid on offense while Christopher Bock, Kyle Kimball and Kelly Walsh led the defense.
EAGLES 6, TORNADOES 1: Ricky Galluci scored three goals as the Eagles defeated the Tornadoes. Jacob Dauz, Bijan Hughes and Danny Lawrence all scored solo goals. For the Tornadoes, Alex Hamilton had a goal while Niall Reynolds supported the offense. Stewart Tabler and Adam Schankman led the D.
COYOTES 3, PANTHERS 0: Kyle Droniak, Harrison Gillis and Steven Musco scored the goals that led the Coyotes over the Panthers. Joe Cappiello and Kris Arndt were strong on offense. For the Panthers, Gregory DeMenna and Michael Giglio led the offense as Ian McEmber and Evan Ritzinger paced the defense.
HURRICANES 6, ROADRUNNERS 3: Ben Spiegel of the Hurricanes and Bobby Davenport of the Roadrunners both had hat tricks, but the âCanes managed to win the game. For the âCanes, Josh Baron scored two goals and Dan Cassidy added one. Timmy Lacouture had four assists. For the Roadrunners, Vince LaFrancesca, Jeffrey Brown and Derek Mayo had solid games.
GIRLS F DIVISION
ROCKETS 1, HURRICANES 0: Lactitia de Brantes scored the lone goal off an assist by Stephanie Arndt to lead the Rockets to the win. Abby Keough and Molly Leger played well on defense in front of goaltender Sarah Murtha. For the Hurricanes, Katie OâDell, Bernice Bryant and Alexandra Grant had good games.
TORNADOES 3, EAGLES 1: Kate Bowen scored a pair of goals and Molly Day added one to lead the Tornadoes to the win. Colleen Cunningham provided an assist and Susan Giarratano led a strong defensive effort. For the Eagles, Kristen Tanner scored the goal. Sarah Attanasio, Emily Rowe and Alex Israel all played well.
SCREAMING NIGHTMARES 1, TIGERS 0: Hillary Buzaid scored in the first win of play at the Screaming Nightmares held on for the victory. Kaley Kruger (offense) and Andrea Nazer (defense) contributed to the win. For the Tigers, Ali Korchmann was solid on offense while Brittany Soucar and Jennifer Smith played well overall.

DRAGONS 5, SHARKS 0: Sam Hoagland and Mike Canafiello scored two goals apiece and Nick Wolf added one to lead the Dragons to the win. Luke Fiore played well. For the Sharks, Brandon Body, Jordan Mathurin and Brendan Delohery had solid performances.
GREEN FALCONS 1, TORNADOES 1: Ishan Tatake of the Green Falcons and Tory Deakin of the Tornadoes scored the goals in a 1-1 deadlock. For the Falcons, Joshua Gilbert provided the assist while Kyle Kromberg and Max Nacewicz starred on defense. For the Tornadoes, Ryan Korth provided the assist. Tim Wilmott, Chris Roberto and Evan Alpert played well.
TORPEDOES 2, RAPTORS 2: Dan Clemens scored twice as the Torpedoes remained unbeaten. Ben Miles, Bryan Wicki and Eric Kurtz also played strong. The Raptors, who also remained unbeaten, got goals from Eric Kennedy and Chris McCann. Daniel Lynch and Todd Walter had solid games.
BOYS U10 TRAVEL
NEWTOWN 2, WATERTOWN 1: Newtownâs goals were scored by Andrew Meisel and Andrew Domingos, with some very good midfield play from John Gouveia and Kurt Nacewicz. The defense was very strong throughout, led by Conor McManus, Conor Collier, Mike Kearns, and Chris Marks. Daniel Quinn was solid in goal.

HURRICANES 2, BROOKFIELD (A) 0: Unselfish play of Katie Serock combined with the offensive pressure applied by the duo of Genna Scheurell and Kelly Sullivan finally wore down Brookfieldâs defense. Haley Keane scored the first goal late in the first half. Tania Domingos closed out the scoring in the second half providing the Hurricanes with the shutout.
BOYS U11 TRAVEL
VIPERS 3, DANBURY 1: The Newtown Vipers struck out at Danbury with their fangs showing and their energy recoiled after the State Cup shutout loss to Simsbury from the previous day. The Vipers put together two first half goals by Justin Miller and a second half goal by Danny Smith as the Vipers went on to a 3-1 win. Danbury netted a direct kick that split the Viper defense and goalie Jason Smith but J. Smith and Alex Bowen combined to deny Danbury on every other attempt. Paul Andras, Kevin Troy, Nick Kallivrousis and Max Hoagland all helped pace the offense with strong midfield minutes, while Mat DeBrantes was confident as the Viper stopper.
SIMSBURY 4, VIPERS 0 (John McVicar State Cup): Alex Bowen, Ethan Canfield and Zachary Varga all played well but the Sabers managed to out hustle an ailing Viper squad in the third round of the State Cup. Simsbury netted two goals in each half while Newtown could not manage to gain possession long enough to get the offense firing. Kevin Davies, Colin Babbage and Chris Meier all gave strong defensive efforts along with Drew Taylor and Jason Smith tackling the center midfield duties.
GIRLS U12 TRAVEL
BROOKFIELD 1, NITROS 0: The Nitros lost a close game on a free kick in the last minutes, after dominating the action for most of the game. Heather Young, Lindsay Weber and Sara Peters all had strong offensive games, as the Nitros controlled the ball throughout with accurate passing and play-making but couldnât find the net. On the defensive end, Darcy Fiscella and Kristene Salbu excelled, turning back Brookfield time and again. Brookfieldâs lone goal gave the Nitros only their first loss in league play this year.
BOYS U12 TRAVEL
NEWTOWN 4, BROOKFIELD 1: Joseph Rahtelli led way offensively with three assists. Michael Klein contributed two goals, while Brian Conroy and Nick Sando chipped in with one apiece. Justin Durelli and Billy McCann had outstanding games for the defense. Chris Nuelle played very well in mid-field. This victory secured sole possession of first place for the Rage, and avenges an earlier season loss to Brookfield in the semi-finals of the Columbia Wyndham Tournament.
GIRLS U13 TRAVEL
ROCKETS 5, NECONN 1 (State Cup): The Newtown Rockets moved into the State Cup quarterfinals with the win over Northeast Connecticut. Jill Tanner opened the match with a one touch shot to the inside right post to score. Minutes later, Mary Anders took a corner and NECNN inadvertently touched it in for the Rockets. In the second half, Siobhan Cooper had a strong shot over the goalie to rip the back of the net. Mary G. Ober made the assist. Tanner executed a quick pass to the left side to help Anders burn one through the goalieâs hands into the net. To end the game, Anders was able to pick off a pass to the NECONN goalie to score. Tara Gaston and Vicky Thomas were in goal. Elyssa Samsel anchored the defense. Casey Frobey, Erin Clark, and Caitlin Hansen were strong in the midfield.
ROCKETS 5, WATERTOWN 0: Newtown showed excellent teamwork and versatility in the game against Watertown. Tara Gaston, Vicky Thomas and Casey Frobey shared goaltime in the win. Siobhan Cooper scored the first goal on an assist by Mary Anders. Alex Konneker exhibited great footwork, scoring the second goal; Jill Tanner and Anders showed great teamwork in the assist. In the second half, Anders found the back of the net with a slider on the left side. Cooper then scored again with a great header, on assists by Tara Gaston and Alex Konneker, and added another goal for her third of the game. Caitlin Hansen showed relentless effort in the midfield. Elyssa Samsel played great offense in the second half. Emily Fields continued to bolster a solid defense.
GIRLS U14 TRAVEL
KNOCKOUTS 2, NECONN 1 (State Cup): This weekend found the Knockouts traveling across the state to Brooklyn to face a tough opponent. Katie OâConnor opened the scoring for Newtown in the first half with a nice shot from the left. NECONN tied it up in the second half, forcing the game into two 15-minute overtime periods. Kate Stickles found the net during the second OT in a scramble in front of the NECONN keeper. Newtown was pressured during the entire game, but keeper Christina Wolf had a solid game and the defense was tough throughout the game. Kelly Corrigan, Stacy Shpunt, and Tara Ryan did not back off until the game whistle blew. Karoline Engel and Kristen Davis kept the midfield focused while pushing the ball up field. Strikers Caitlyn Kuhn and Cora Peffers gave the NECONN defense a run for their money. This win puts the Knockouts into the quarter final round of the State Cup.
BUNKER HILL 4, KNOCKOUTS 0: Playing in Waterbury in dustbowl field conditions, the Knockouts suffered a tough loss. Missing from the team were both goalkeepers who were substituted for by much needed field players Megan Regnery and Caitlyn Barksdale. Several girls also had injuries. Still, the Knockouts found the spark to ignite numerous attacks but unlucky in finding the back of the net. Amanda Shevlin and Sarah Salbu cut off many runs in the midfield while Quincey Blanchard made good stops at the back.
