But several other players were busy torching the nylon, too. Nora Lynn Shimko (girlsâ seventh-grade travel) scored 30 points in a loss to Danbury; Steven Musco (Junior Boys) canned 33 points and the Jaspers defeated the Wildcats by three ... despite a 41-point effort from Jake DeVellis.

Team Poeltl 51, Purple Pirates 29 â Tara Gaston poured in 27 points to power Team Poeltl to the win. Tara Ryan had six assists as Rachel Eastman made seven steals and Chynna Smith grabbed five rebounds. Nora Sykes and Jessica Budnick also played well. For the Pirates, Sarah Holroyd popped in seven points as Jackie Ercole and Katy DiVanno had strong performances.
Clementines 43, Midnight Riders 35 â Casey Frobey canned 14 points and Quincey Blanchard added 10 to lead the Clementines to the win. Genie Santiago and Kristene Salbu played well on D. For the Riders, Megan LaFlamme scored 15 points as Monica Strzelecki and Courtney Brunton added eight points apiece. Marina Virgalla and Katie McNulty played well.

Girls 8th
Newtown 42, New Canaan 33 â Nora Lynn Shimko scored 17 points while Jen Brewer added seven and Kasey Schultz and Jordyn Good each popped in six to lead Newtown. Rachel Taback grabbed seven rebounds while Kaila Harrington and Kelsey Hopper pulled down six apiece.
Newtown 38, Monroe 27 â Nora Lynn Shimko scored 15 points and Jen Brewer added 12 as Newtown avenged an earlier loss to Monroe. Linda Magliocco, Kaila Harrington and Kelsey Hopper combined for 11 points. Jordyn Good and Kasey Schulz combined for 12 rebounds as Rachele Cox and Adelle Ceretta both played hard sparking the team on both ends of the court.
Danbury 55, Newtown 45 â Newtown kept it close with a full court press and tough defense and was only down by one point at the end of the third quarter, but Danburyâs height overpowered Newtown in the final minutes of the game. Nora Lynn Shimko put on a shooting clinic and was the high scorer on the floor with a season-high 30 points, which included six three pointers. Shimko also contributed to the strong defense, leading the team in steals with six as Kasey Schulz added four more. Jordyn Good and Jen Brewer also played well with Good chipping in six points and six rebounds and Brewer contributing six rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot.
Boys 8th
Newtown 48, Easton 38 â Ian Cooper scored nine points and John Grimaldi added eight to lead Newtown to the win. Chris Marks grabbed 17 rebounds while David Bray pulled down 15 and Ricky Gallucci nine. Mark Scheunemann and Jacob Dauz anchored the D.
Newtown 52, Brookfield 41 â Kurt Nacewicz scored 18 points as Newtown pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win. Connor Collier chipped in eight points as David Bray and John Grimaldi chipped in seven apiece.
Boys 7th
Newtown 62, Brookfield 57 (OT) â Newtown overcame eight three-pointers to overcome Brookfield and improve to 15-0-1. Andy Lapple and Ralph Sergiovanni combined to score eight of Newtownâs overtime points. Newtown used a trapping man-to-man defense led by Dan Lynch and Max Paynter to hold off the opponent. Scoring was balanced as George Zaruba, Kyle Kromberg and Nick Nazer combined for 29 points.
Newtown 61, New Fairfield 27 â A smothering defense and effective fast break led Newtown to the win and the FCBL North Division title. Nick Nazer, Kyle Kromberg, Pete Young and Dan Lynch combined for 39 points as the locals improved to 16-0-1. Dan Greenwood and Casey Tenney each had three steals as Greenwood handed out seven assists.
Girls 7th
Newtown 49, Stamford 38 â Jennifer Daily scored nine points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Newtown to the victory. Sara Kelley scored 23 points while Kate Bowen had 10 points with five assists. Ally Modzelewski chipped in four points while Megan Bridges was strong off the boards for Newtown.
Norwalk 52, Newtown 30 â Sara Kelley netted 12 points while Kaitlin Marsden had six points and eight rebounds, but Newtown fell to an undefeated Norwalk team. Nicole Elias and Kate Bowen chipped in five points each while Stephanie Suhoza and Carolyn Fagan played well defensively.
Boys 5th
New Canaan 28, Newtown 27 â New Canaan dropped in a bucket at the buzzer to win. Josh Barrett and Dominick Fedak played well on offense while Austin Bonadio and Trey Trudell anchored the defense.
Girls 5th
Newtown 23, St. Maryâs 12 â Newtown improved to 8-3 as Nora Murphy, Christina Caporale and Meghan Condon had fine defensive games. Jessica Lynch scored eight points while Riley Wurtz (5), Jessica Jowdy (4) and Alyssa Finkenstadt (4) also contributed on offense.

Junior Boys
Eagles 37, Nighthawks 20 â Kyle OâConnor scored 13 points and Keith McGrath added nine to lead the Eagles to the win. Ryan Murphy, Chris Murphy and Mike Coates played well. For the âHawks, Jamey Tibbetts and Andrew Matsis combined for 12 points while Michael Shevlin and Michael Herring anchored the D.
Bobcats 40, Nighthawks 22 â Kyle Pickle canned 16 points and Brian Murphy played well on the defense to lead a short-handed Bobcats team to the win. For the âHawks, Andrew Matsis had six points while Zach Gordon and Alex Miller had solid floor games.
Hawkeyes 40, Bullets 24 â Kyle McNamara popped in 16 points â 12 of those in the third quarter â to lead the Hawkeyes to the win. Matt Hill and Oskar Dean played well. For the Bullets, Rob OâDonnell scored seven points as Evan Kennedy, Charlie LoBosco and Dan Hansen played well.
Jaspers 66, Wildcats 63 â Steven Musco poured in 33 points and Jason Kostecki added 23 more as the Jaspers out-gunned the Wildcats. Zach Conger played well on defense. For the âCats, Jake DeVellis canned a game-high 41 points while Mitch Udiskey and Mike Lago played well.

Jaspers 47, Hawkeyes 34 â Jason Kostecki scored 12 points and Andy Murphy dished off three assists as the Jaspers took the win. Jeff Keating played well on D. For the âHawkeyes, Calvin Song, Tom Mascher (five assists), Matt Baier (four steals) and Oskar Dean (seven rebounds) had solid performances.

Dan Quinn dished off seven assists while Ben Murphy and Andrew Golankiewicz played well. For the âJackets, Brian Reszoly scored nine points, Sotian Achti dished off nine assists, Mehul Garjar made five steals, and Ryan Schmidt grabbed 11 rebounds.
Celtics 44, Nuggets 39 â Joe Selezan scored 14 points and Trevor Todd added eight more to lead the Celtics. Rockwell Anyoha had six assists and Ben Mahony had six steals. For the Nuggets, Harrison Gillis canned 11 points as Matt Narel had nine points and three blocks.

Lakers 52, Heat 46 â Andrew Meisel and Jeff DiNicola combined for 26 points and lifted the Lakers past the Heat. Sean OâConnell grabbed 10 rebounds while Nick Tarantino had eight assists and Brian Grimes had five steals. For the Heat, John Aminti canned 15 points and John Fracker added 11 more. Chris Winter, Jeff Brown and Steve Osmolik played well.
Intermediate Girls
Rim Rockers 40, Suns 31 â Ali Pliszka poured in 25 points as the Rockets upended the Suns. Tori Picerno (six assists), Emily Rowe (four steals) and Amanda Swift (seven rebounds) had fine floor games and Mikaela McGuire and Sara Benson played well. For the Suns, Kelly OâConnor canned 20 points as Marisa Cucco rebounded well and played aggressive defense. Lainey Audet and Allison Blume had solid performances.
Suns 23, Da Bulls 20 â Kelly OâConnor, Breanne Lubinsky and Stef Clavette combined for 19 points to lead the Suns to the win. Marilyn LaCroce garnered 10 rebounds and Caitlin Dowling passed well. For Da Bulls, Lauren Mayer canned 13 points as Massie Kearney and Colleen Cosgrove played well.
Da Bulls 42, Shamrocks 18 â Lauren Meyer scored 16 points and Taylor Benson added eight more to lead Da Bulls to the win. Jillian Thompson and Nicole Rotante played well. For the Shamrocks, Deanne Tassinari scored six points while Alyssa Ruddy, Julie Ficks and Michelle Margait played well.
