TRACK AND FIELD: The Track and Field program, scheduled to begin May 12 and May 13, has been canceled.

RECREATION SUMMER SWIM TEAM: The Newtown Torpedoes are gearing up for another fun summer, competing in the State Line Swim League. The emphasis of this program in team spirit and FUN! Swimmers will learn the fundamentals of swim competition and proper stroke and turn techniques. As part of the State Line Swim League, team members will have the opportunity to compete in approximately eight dual meets against local teams. The season will culminate with the league championships, for which there will be an additional $5 league fee per swimmer. The decision to compete in meets will be the swimmers; there will be no pressure. Team suits will be available at an extra fee, but are optional. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards and must have knowledge of the various swim strokes. THIS IS NOT SWIM LESSONS. Practices will be held at Treadwell Park pool, starting June 30 and will be held Monday through Friday from 7- 8:45 am. FIELD HOCKEY CAMP: Newtown Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the return of the very successful Field Hockey Camp. Instructors, Kathy Davey and Kim Lowell (NHS Coaches), assisted by former High School (now collegiate) and present High School players, will introduce the game of Field Hockey to girls entering 6th through 9th grades. The camp will be held at Fairfield Hills. Instructional sessions will begin with basic skills. As campers develop confidence, more advanced skills will be introduced. There will be small-sided games to help teach offensive and defensive strategies. Besides field play, campers will be introduced to the position of goal keeping with equipment and techniques. Campers should bring both sneakers and cleats and a water bottle.

FEE: $92 (includes jr. high/middle school stick, ball, mouth guard, shin guards and t-shirt); DATE: Monday, June 23 from 1 - 4 pm and Tuesday through Friday, June 24 through June 27, 9 am to 12 noon. For further information, please call the Newtown Parks and Recreation office at 270-4340.
