Community Service Can Be Fun

To the Editor:

This is the time of year when we think of what we are thankful for. I would like to add something to the list of things to be thankful for: St Rose Youth Group. Each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving is leaf raking day.

The young army shows up bearing rakes. The group of adults show up with leaf blowers, willing to give up their day as well. We leave at 9 am and return at 3 pm. This year they were able to assist six homeowners with their leaf problems. They learn how much they can accomplish by working together. They learn that helping others makes you feel good. Anyone can help another regardless of their age. Community service can be a fun thing.

I am very proud to assist this group. I would like to thank the adults that give up so much time to help this group of youths. I only hope that the lessons they learn at St Rose Youth Group will stay with them throughout their lives.
