OBITS (Carroll; Hoyt; Shreders; Sherman)

Elizabeth Carroll

Elizabeth Kollin Carroll, 84, of Monroe died Monday, May 4, 1998, in Ashlar of

Newtown. Mrs Carroll was born in New York City and had been a Monroe resident

for 15 years. She was the wife of the late Anthony C. Carroll and is survived

by four daughters, Joanne Schulz of California, Patricia Carroll of Shirley,

N.Y., Elizabeth LeDeoux of Mastic Beach, N.Y., and Virginia Gaffney of Monroe;

a brother, Walter Kollin of Naples, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and seven

great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of

the family. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made in her

memory to the St Vincent's Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main Street,

Bridgeport, Conn. 06611.

Arrangements by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Pl.,

Trumbull.

Adele V. Hoyt

Adele Vickery Hoyt, 91, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Newtown and

Southbury, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital in Flagler. She was the widow

of Raymond H. Hoyt.

Mrs Hoyt was born in Bronx, N.Y., February 15, 1907, the daughter of the late

John H. and Amanda Aders Kerkmann. She grew up in Rockaway, N.Y., and lived in

Springdale, Conn. She was a resident of Newtown for 25 years before moving to

Heritage Village in Southbury in 1985; she had just recently moved to Florida.

She was an active member of the Newtown Garden Club and a member and former

president of the Springdale Garden Club.

Mrs Hoyt is survived by two sons, George A. Hoyt of Palm Coast, Fla., and

Richard L. Hoyt of Bethel, Conn.; one sister, Winifred Star of Montauck, LI,

N.Y.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one

great-great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Conn., 30 West Street,

Danbury, Conn. 06810.

A service will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue,

Bethel, at 8:30 on Sunday and a graveside service will be at Newtown Village

Cemetery, Newtown, Conn., Monday at 11 am with the Reverend Robert T. Johnson

officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home Sunday evening from

7 to 8:30 pm.

Irma P. Shreders

Irma P. Shreders, 86, formerly of Idleview Drive, Naugatuck, died Saturday,

May 9, at Crescent Manor in Waterbury.

Mrs Shreders was born June 28, 1911 in Round Hill, the daughter of the late

Edward A. and Helen Purdy.

She leaves three sons, Alvin Shreders of Waterbury, Wayne Shreders of

Litchfield, and Kurt Shreders of Manheim, Penn.; four sisters, May Stotinger

and Connie Allen, both of Concord, Vt.; Betty Bailey and June Lewis, both of

Plymouth, N.H.; and seven grandchildren. A son, Marvin P. Shreders, is

deceased.

Burial is at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours.

Dr Robert Sherman

Dr Robert S. Sherman, 88, of Roxbury died Sunday, May 3, at New Milford

Hospital. He was the husband of Dr Ruth Snyder.

Dr Sherman was born May 17, 1909, in Pawtucket, R.I., the son of the late

Frank E. and Harriot E. Pollard Sherman.

He graduated from Pawtucket Senior High School in 1927, received his PhD from

Brown University in 1931, and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School in

1935.

He interned at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital and Long Island College in

Brooklyn, N.Y., specializing in radiology. He was chairman and attending

radiologist in the Department of Diagnostic Roentgenology at Memorial

Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and a consultant in radiology

at IBM Medical Department.

He was a professor at New York Hospital and a clinical professor of radiology

at Cornell University Medical College. He published numerous books and

articles on cancer diagnosis and radiology.

Dr Sherman added 56 acres to the Roxbury Land Trust in memory of Brian E.

Tierney in 1974, and in 1957 purchased a 13.4-acre tract on Lake Lillinonah

and gave it to the town of Roxbury as Sherman Park. He was a Roxbury resident

for 49 years and a member of St John's Episcopal Church in Washington, Conn.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert Snyder Sherman of Pelham, N.H.,

and Roger Holmes Sherman of Northport, N.Y.; a daughter, Ruth Ann Perkins of

Finksburg, Md.; and nine grandchildren.

The funeral was Wednesday at St John's Episcopal Church, Washington. Burial

followed in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.
