Youth Soccer Highlights

U-14 Boys

Boots 4, Vipers 3: Ryan Pisani scored in the first half and in the second half Chris Arnone added two goals and Ryan Moyer scored once to give Boots a 4-1 lead. Brandon Luxkaranayagam played a strong game on defense and Eric Pisani was active at stopper. For the Vipers, Josh Branchflower played a strong overall game, scoring a goal and assisting on goals scored by Fredrik Dean and Luke Shearin. Nathan Norwich and Nolan Cosgrove also had strong games at midfield.

The Whatevers 5, Strykerz 2: Colin Cooper scored a hat trick and Miles Dobbrow and Matt Janco added goals in the win. Goalkeeper Robbie Nordman who made two point-blank stops and defensive support was provided by Frankie Biancardi and Danny Cummings. For the  Strykerz, Ivan Hutchison scored both goals. Patrick Afriyie and  Nick Shannon provided the assists. Mike Stierle and Nick Klein anchored the defense.

The Fives 2, AT&T 1: Tyler Ruefenacht and Garrison Buzzanca scored for the Fives and Jonah McKeown and Jacob Moore played solid all around games. Gavin Scallon scored for AT&T, Jimmy Russo played great defense and Tom Giarratano played well on offense.

U11 Boys Travel

Newtown White Lighting 6, Norwalk Strikers 1: Clay Gattey had two goals and Kaj Djonne (penalty Kick), Jeremy Doski, Graham Hubbert and Anthony Vournazos (header) all added goals. Michael Cook, Patrick Rowley, Luca Imbimbo and Ryan King had assists. Knute Johnson, Sawyer Conrad, Kevin Droniak and Dillon Wikramnanyake were a force on defense, shutting down the Norwalk offense. Michael Biancardi and Constant Gregoire were aggressive on offense. Goalkeeper Kevin Ovendorf made several stops in the first half and the Newtown defense did not allow any shots in the second half.

U10 Boys

Twisters: 5, Silenerz: 0: Joshaua Becker and Christopher Horkachuck played strong defense and Ian Wilson  and Kyle Watkins both played a great all around games. Carter Nordman and David Pierce scored two goals each and Forrest Weatherby had a goal to lead the Twisters to a win in the first spring game.

The Oskars  4, Strikers 2: Travis Hanna scored the first goal for the Oskars and Albert Dean scored the next three to record a hat trick. Colin Villamana and William Roberts both played strong overall games. Jamie Cochrane scored both goals for the Strikers. Christian Morlock also played well, and made several strong saves in goal during the first half, and Cooper Buonocore and Matthew Kretz played well at midfield. Zach Pollock and Peter Manfredonia also played solid defense.

Strikers 4, Fairfield 1: Chris Healy scored three goals, two on penalty kicks, and Bryce Mather added another in the win. Robbie Schreiber and Colin Patrick both had strong offensive efforts, keeping the pressure on Fairfield during the first half. The Newtown defense was lead by Jacob Ermis, Alex Gerbo and Josh Houle.

U8 Boys

The SuperChargers 3, Team USA (team 9) 3: The SuperChargers were led by Ryan Brello who scored two goals and Justin Gillespie who scored a goal. Alexander Hess and Jeffrey Collins each played a great game for the SuperChargers. Team USA was led by John Finnegan, who had two goals, Matthew Gerbo, who also scored. The defense was anchored by Ben Tuffy and Theodore Silverman. Thomas Phaneuf and Harry Eppers also played well.

Blue Sharks 7, Blue Hurricanes 3: Andrew Lee has had four goals and Joey Cistulli played a solid game at sweeper and added a goal for the Sharks. Andrew Lally also scored and Jack Hanley had a solid offensive game for the winners. Nick Harper and Joshua Harper combined for three goals for the Blue Hurricanes. Silas Decker was solid of defense. Ian Klepacki and Jack Armstrong made several difficult saves while defending the Blue Hurricanes’ goal.

U13 Girls

Greenwich 2  Newtown Flash 1: Goalkeeper Emily Brisson played a strong game, Lindsay Jossick scored on a penalty kick and Julia Trudell was gallant in defense for Newtown.

U11 Girls

Lightning 3, Wilton 2: Sarah Lynch scored all three goals for the Lightning. Helene Sorensen was solid on defense, and Dale Shearin and Kate Fallon played well in goal.

U10 Girls

Super Shooters 1,  Turf Devils 1: Caitlin Filiato scored the only goal for the Super Shooters. Callie Kraushaar played a great all around game and Tonya Tucker and Kathryn Blanco played aggressively on offense. Kirsten Yapp and Geralyn Klein were solid on defense. For the Turf Devils, fearless goalkeeping from Kelly Merrick, Denise Kuban and Sarah Greenwood, along with solid defense from Emily Campbell and Anita Luxkaranayagam kept the game close.

Bulldogs 0, Torpedoes 0: Outstanding goalkeeping by Anna Buzzanca, Emily McCoy and Maddie Bridges, and strong overall play by Emma Horne and Emily Turco led the Bulldogs. For the Torpedoes, goalies Danielle Scarpa, Kayla di Sibio, Amanda Mele and Rachel Crosby combined to keep the ball out of the net. Chloe Blakeman and Jaqueline Mooney also had great all around games.

Rockets 2, Funky Monkeys 1: Katy Reilly and Hannah Booth scored for the Rockets. Newcomers Madison Pirone and Becky Frank played great games on defense. Lauren Beier scored the lone goal for the Funky Monkeys.  Stephanie Carr made some great saves. Anna Biondi and Veronica Moyer had good all around games.

The Galaxy 6, Blazing Monkeys 3: Meghan Grimes, Jesse Sailer and Christina Moore and Sierra Mather scored and Hannah Delia had a great defensive game for the winners. Katie Laaksonen scored two goals for the Blazing Monkeys and Marissa Thill also scored a goal assisted by Catherine McHugh. Faith Pereira was solid in goal and Megan Weber had a great all around game.

U8 Girls.

Mustangs 3, Wolverines 2: Nevan Gattey scored two goals and Amanda Wikramanayake added one for the Mustangs. Lauren King and Natalie Shaker both had assists, and Jacqueline Seras made six saves in goal. Jessica Maturo and Chloe Rogalin scored goals and Maya Neuhoff and Megan Nahmias played well in goal for the Wolverines.

Fighting Irish 6, Blue Champions 1: Jillian Pieretti, Megan Goyda, Megan Kelleher, Caroline Caporale, and Elizabeth Weisgerber all scored goals in the win. For the Blue Champions, Dylan Zahansky scored a goal and goalkeeper Emma Boland played well. Catherine Shaw put in a great effort on offense and defense.
