Projects Eligible For Funding
The Legislative Council last week added three large capital projects to its
capital improvement plan. In doing so, the council made the projects eligible
for Local Capital Improvement Plan (LoCIP) funding.
LoCIP funds are state grants made up mostly of state sales taxes.
The three projects include $155,000 for the installation of Geographic
Information System (GIS) mapping, to be used for enhanced land-use planning,
$148,000 for a new roof at the highway department, and $100,000 for a sewer
hook-up to Sandy Hook School.
Each year, the state of Connecticut distributes money for capital projects to
towns. However, each town must first apply for use of the funds.
According to First Selectman Herb Rosenthal, there had been $772,515 available
to the town in LoCIP funds. These three projects, plus the $180,000 cost to
remove oil tanks at the town garage, have reduced the balance to $187,516.
