Compassionate Caregiving Talk April 2

SOUTHBURY — Laurie St John, RN, MSN, will present a program, “The Compassionate Caregiver: When Difficult Behavior Interferes with Caregiving,” Wednesday, April 2, at 1 pm, in the library at the Federation, Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut, 444 Main Street North.

She will talk about different strategies for caregivers or family members coping with a loved one’s mental health issues or mental status changes; how to redirect behavior; and how to access community resources. Whether living with or caring for a child, spouse, parent, or friend with mental illness, dementia, or other problems, this program will be helpful for family members or caregivers facing any of these challenges.

This free program is sponsored by Brownstein Jewish Family Service in conjunction with VNA HealthCare. Due to limited seating, preregister is required.

Connecticut residents age 60 and over are invited to a free health screening on Monday, April 14, from 9:30 am to noon, in the social hall at the Federation. Screenings are available for vision, hearing, lung capacity, fall risk and prevention, diabetes, and cholesterol. Overnight fasting is required for the diabetes and cholesterol tests.

The health screening is sponsored by the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, Connecticut Department of Social Services, and Brownstein Jewish Family Service.

Register for all activities by calling 267-3177, extension 105.
