Withdrawal From Iraq Won't 'Stop The Dying'
Withdrawal From Iraq
Wonât âStop The Dyingâ
To the Editor:
Colleen McCormack-Clifford stated in her letter of January 10, âStop the war; stop the dying.â She goes on to say that during the Vietnam War, the US government had convinced her of the âDomino Effectâ; and she believed that if South Vietnam fell to the North Vietnamese, that all of Southeast Asia would be next. Now, however, she is much wiser and will not fall for the same lie again. According to her, we must leave Iraq now in order to save American lives. This is a shortsighted belief that will result in many more deaths.
I am not aware of her political persuasion, but Ms McCormack-Clifford sounds like many other liberals who profess to care about human life. Unfortunately, she only seems to be concerned about the lives of Americans. She conveniently has forgotten that when the United States fled Vietnam, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese were slaughtered by the North Vietnamese. Also, over one million people were murdered in the killing fields of Cambodia. Those deaths seem unimportant to her.
Now, she calls for us to pull out of Iraq in order to âstop the dying.â The dying will not stop, madam. If we should withdraw, hundreds of thousands of Iraqâs citizens will be murdered in a bloodbath of massive proportions. I guess that really does not matter to her and other liberals as long as the dead are not Americans.
If we should pull out of Iraq, Iran will surely enter the country and take it over. They are presently supplying our enemies in Iraq with weapons, funds, and advisors. Once they control that country, they will then control a large portion of the worldâs oil. America, along with other countries, will then be at their mercy economically.
A madman who has sworn to wipe Israel off the face of the earth controls Iran. We, too, are his enemies. Proof of this is the fact that he has asked his people to imagine a world without an Israel or a United States. Before World War II, we ignored similar statement from Adolph Hitler. This modern-day Hitler is now on the verge of possessing nuclear weapons. With these he will become a threat to other countries in the region. Without a doubt, he will also pass these weapons on to Islamic terrorists. What will the cost to us be in lives of American soldiers and civilians and the rest of the world when we have to face an Iran that possesses nuclear weapons?
We are fortunate that individuals with Ms McCormack-Cliffordâs viewpoint were not alive during World War II. Although she would have supported President Rooseveltâs military actions after Pearl Harbor, she would have called for a withdrawal from the D-Day beaches because of American casualties. Hitlerâs counteroffensive at the Battle of the Bulge would have resulted in us seeking a truce to end the war.
In conclusion, the dying will not stop; it will have just begun. The enemy in Vietnam did not follow us to New Jersey as she has stated. Today, the enemy is already in New Jersey, Connecticut, California, and the rest of North America due to our lax immigration policy. Many have already been captured, and several attacks have already been prevented. Two examples are the plan to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge and the plan to blow 11 civilian airliners out of the sky over American cities last summer.
Remember September 11, Ms McCormack-Clifford!
