Dr Marc J. Taylor To Be Honored

SOUTHBURY — A memorial 5K walk and celebration will be held on Saturday, October 6, in honor of Dr Marc J. Taylor.

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit his two favorite organizations: Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC) and Southbury Land Trust.

The walk will start and finish at River Glen Health Care Center, 162 South Britain Road. Registration will begin at 10 am, and the walk will start at 11. A celebration will follow the walk, including live music and refreshments.

Dr Taylor, a physician who once made house calls to all corners of Southbury, enjoyed nature and appreciated the beauty of rivers. As his medical career wound down, Dr Taylor became a champion for sick rivers. With like-minded friends, he founded PRWC, which in 1999 began to study the quality and quantity of water in the Pomperaug River watershed, a 90-square-mile area that touches eight area towns. The walk will honor Dr Taylor and help continue his work by benefiting his two favorite organizations.

Information and an online registration form can be found a Pomperaug.org. Those who wish to register for the walk on the day of the event are encouraged to arrive at 10 am. The cost for each adult walker is $30. T-shirts and brochures will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

Southbury Land Trust is a private nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of Southbury’s natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations. Most properties are open to the public for hiking and other forms of passive recreation from dawn to dusk.

Today PRWC is a partnership of local governments, businesses, environmental groups, state and federal agencies, and citizens. The organization is dedicated to ensuring the availability of high-quality water in the Pomperaug Watershed by protecting the river environment and the aquifer.
