Sandy Hook DWI

Police report they saw motorist Virginia O’Dell, 39, of 50 Berkshire Road driving eastbound on Philo Curtis Road about 3:30 am October 14. Police said they investigated and gave O’Dell three field sobriety tests which she failed. She also failed an intoximeter test at the police station, police said. Police charged O’Dell with driving while intoxicated. After processing she was released for an October 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Four MV Charges

Police said they stopped Angelo M. Petrino, 24, of Danbury on Route 25 about 6 pm October 17 for having the a marker plate from another vehicle on the 1997 Ford pickup truck he was driving.

Police charged Petrino with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of a marker plate, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police released Petrino for an October 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Gas Station Burglary

Police said they learned October 14 of a burglary and larceny at the Citgo gas station at 47 Church Hill Road. Early that morning an employee discovered that money and cigarettes were missing from the premises. There were no signs of forced entry, police said. The items taken are valued at $1,100. Police are investigating.

 

Tractor Theft

Police report the Planter’s Choice Nursery was the victim of a theft in which someone stole an orange Kubota tractor valued at $4,000 from a Meadow Brook Road site. The tractor was reported stolen October 13. It was last seen on the property October 11.

Starbucks Theft

 While a man was in the Starbucks Coffee shop on Church Hill Road with friends about 9:45 pm October 9, someone stole a Panasonic portable compact disc player and 80 compact discs from his unlocked vehicle which was in the parking lot, police said. The man had been in the coffee shop for about 15 minutes, police said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact police.

Details

Police have provided additional details about a drug arrest that they made October 12.

Police said they saw Scott Sigmund, 22, of Bethel driving 67 miles per hour on South Main Street about 11 pm and pulled Sigmund over. On investigating, drug paraphernalia was seen in plain sight in Sigmund’s vehicle, police said.

Police said they charged Sigmund with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, and failure to carry a driver’s license. Police released Sigmund on a promise to appear October 26 in Danbury Superior Court.

BMW Break-In

Police learned at 9:30 am October 12 that someone had broken into a BMW 740 parked at a Mile Hill Road address. The break-in, in which items were taken, took place sometime between 10 pm October 11 and 8 am October 12. Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

Diamonds Missing

Police report they learned October 10 of two diamond engagement rings that were stolen from a Taunton Hill Road home. There were no signs of forced entry. The crime committed is second-degree larceny, reflecting a theft of items valued at between $5,000 and $10,000. The case is under investigation.

Berkshire Road Crash

Motorist Jennifer L. Vayan, 18, of 9 Fleetwood Drive, Sandy Hook, was eastbound near 100 Berkshire Road about 10:20 pm October 10 when she lost control of the 1993 Honda Civic she was driving on a curve on the wet road, police said. The Honda then struck a protective barrier, coming to rest on it, police said.

Vayan was not injured. Police issued her an infraction for making a restricted turn and a warning for failure to carry a driver’s license.

Edmund Road

Motorist Juana B. Pascasio, 27, of Danbury, who was driving a 1992 Nissan Maxima southbound on Edmund Road about 3 pm October 12, stopped at the stop sign at Church Hill Road, police said.

Pascasio’s foot then slipped off the brake pedal and onto the gas pedal, causing it to enter Church Hill Road and strike a westbound 1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible driven by Sue A. Segneri, 24, of 16 Sweetbriar Lane, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Pascasio for failure to grant the right of  way.

Chain Reaction

State police report a three-vehicle chain reaction crash on westbound Interstate-84 east of Exit 10 about 8 am October 14.

Police said a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Eric R. Beaulieu, 23, of East Hartford was unable to stop in time for changing traffic conditions and struck the rear end of a stopped 1994 Nissan Sentra driven by Barton P. Fong, 39, of Wappingers Falls, NY, causing the Nissan to strike the rear end of a stopped 1999 Volkswagen Passat driven by Deborah A. Garthwait, 44, of 19 Riverside Road, police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Beaulieu was following too closely.

Drug Bust

Police report they lodged drug charges against two local youths about 6 pm October 18 near the intersection of Sanford Road and Tamarack Road.

Police said they stopped a vehicle there because they were unable to see into it due to its tinted windows. Police said that on investigating, they smelled the odor of marijuana.

Police said they charged Michael Hayes, 18, of 14 Boggs Hill Road with two counts of possession of marijuana, plus one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of possession of alcohol by a minor.

Police charged Jeffrey Shpunt, 17, of 12 Partridge Lane with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both youths are scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court November 2 to answer the charges.

MV Charges

Police report they charged a Brookfield man October 17 with various offenses following a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of the eastbound Intertstate-84 Exit 10 ramp and Church Hill Road.

Police said motorist Kevin Ferraro, 21, of Brookfield turned left on a red light and almost struck a police car which was passing by. Police charged Ferraro with failure to obey a traffic control signal, possession of marijuana, possession of drug parapahernalia, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.

Ferraro is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court October 26 to answer the charges.

 

Hundred Acres

Police said motorist Douglas Rondlett, 18, of 17 Indian Hill Lane, was driving a 1997 Subaru Legacy southbound on Hundred Acres Road about 1 am October 16 when he lost control, went into a spin, crossed two lawns, hit posts and landed in a ditch. Neither Rondlett nor three passengers were injured, police said. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.
