NEW HOPE, PENN. â Gratz Gallery and Conservation Studio will exhibit âJan Lipes 2005: Post-Impres-sions,â beginning January 9. The show features all new work by the celebrated Bucks County painter and the artist will host an opening reception Saturday, January 8, from 6 to 9 pm. The exhibition will run through February 6.
The exhibition will include local landscapes depicting familiar country scenes from the Bucks County region: the canal towpath, the Delaware River and architectural landmarks such as the Free Bridge and the renowned New Hope, Ivyland Railroad Station.
Born in 1951 in New York City, Jan Lipes graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1976. Lipes moved to Solebury and has been painting in the New Hope/Lambertville area for the past 13 years. Lipes taught himself to paint despite limited use of only his nondominant left hand and being confined to a wheelchair because of multiple sclerosis. âArt is my lifeâs work,â says Lipes. âI absorb scenes from the world, process them through my head and heart and place them back with my understanding and feeling stamped on them.â
