The following local residents earned undergraduate degrees from Northeastern University in June. Donna C. Robinson of Newtown received a bachelor of science degree from Northeastern’s School of Arts and Science. Jamal O. Stockton of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of science in engineering technology from the Engineering Technology department.

Jaclyn D. Shea

Jaclyn D. Shea, daughter of Alida and Vinny Shea of Sandy Hook, was named to the dean’s list at Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts for both the fall and spring semesters. She was also recently selected by the faculty for induction into the Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society

Miss Shea was selected as music director for the university’s spring musical, where she recruited and directed 24 musicians to form the orchestra, which supported public performances of the musical Cabaret in April.

This summer she is completing a nine-week internship at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. She is teaching the French horn to middle school students. Miss Shea will also participate as a member of various senior staff ensembles. 

Marist College named the following Newtown students to the dean’s list for the spring 2001 semester. Ryan M. Henry, son of Deborah and J. Robert Henry of Newtown, is a May graduate and Laura Terry, daughter of Jean and Weston Terry of Newtown, is a junior.

Todd Palo

Todd Palo, a recent Newtown High School graduate, received the Newtown Rotary College Scholarship Award. Mr Palo plans to attend Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, where he will study government and law. Newtown Rotary president Duane Baumert congratulates Mr Palo.

Kristen McGrath

Newtown High School student Kristen McGrath spent time in Washington, D.C., during the Hugh O’Brien Connecticut Youth Leadership, where high school juniors have an opportunity to explore their leadership potential. Kristen was able to stop by and see Chris Dodd, US Senator from Connecticut, during her trip.

Kane Larin of Newtown graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
