No Grand Conspiracy
No Grand Conspiracy
To the Editor:
I would like to respond to Mr Davis for attacking Pete DâAmico, a longtime boysâ travel soccer coach and apolitical conservative entrepreneur [Letter Hive, âHow Things Change Before Election Day,â September 21]. Mr Davis stated the new recreation facility is on âwarp speed,â saying it was a project Mr DâAmico offered to undertake in 2003. Why now? If Mr Davis had done a little research, he wouldâve seen that in 2003, the idea was just that, an idea. At the time Mr DâAmico didnât have the financing and the town didnât have the final Fairfield Hills environmental report. There was no grand conspiracy to postpone the project for four years until the November 2007 reelection of Herb Rosenthal.
Mr Davis has personally soiled a wonderful gift. Mr DâAmico is giving a million dollars of his own money to a project that will profit the kids of Newtown. Mr Davis has soiled this project to attack our First Selectman Herb Rosenthal. You lost my vote, as did your Independent Party, and I truly hope track, basketball, soccer and lacrosse parents will remember this at the polls. Instead of taking the high road and saying, âNice job Herbâ¦I still think you should have postponed the municipal and Board of Education offices, but this is certainly good for the town,â you chose instead to disparage a gracious and most generous gift. What should have been said was, âThanks Pete.â So let me just say what Mr Davis couldnât: thanks Pete DâAmico and thanks Herb Rosenthal, who does have my vote and full support.
