Robert L. Kayfus, 89, beloved husband of Helen (Hiza) Kayfus of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, died unexpectedly June 14, at his home. He was born in Bridgeport, October 1, 1919, a son of William J. and Anna (Qubick) Kayfus.
A lifelong resident of Newtown, Mr Kayfus was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1939, and the University of Bridgeport. He was a pilot in the US Army Air Corps during World War II with the rank of first lieutenant, and was a member of VFW Post #308 in Newtown.
Before retirement, Mr Kayfus was a sales engineer for the Bullard Company of Bridgeport.
He was a lifelong communicant of St Rose of Lima Church and was a member of Virgilius Council #185, Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by four sons, Thomas J. Kayfus of Sandy Hook, Robert L. Kayfus, Jr, of Katy, Texas, Gary P. Kayfus and his wife, Paige, of Coral Springs, Fla., Timothy J. Kayfus and his wife, Beth, of Louisville, Tenn.; a daughter, Kathleen Paccadolmi of Raphine, Va., and a daughter-in-law, Wanda Kayfus of Abilene, Texas; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held June 18, from the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Military Honors followed in St Rose Cemetery.
