Scholarships Available Through Newtown Womanâs Club
The Newtown Womanâs Club, GFWC, Inc, a member of the General Federation of Womenâs Clubs of Connecticut, will be accepting applications for several statewide scholarships. The deadline for requesting an application is November 1. All written requests for scholarship applications should be sent to the Newtown Womanâs Club, GFWC, Inc, PO Box 101, Newtown CT 06470-0101 Attention: Scholarships â Education Department.
Scholarships being offered are for young women who have completed at least two or three years of college with a 3.0 average, or better, and are currently enrolled in either undergraduate or masterâs study programs. They include the Phipps Memorial Scholarship, which was established in 1926 to assist deserving students in furthering their education; the Dorothy E. Schoelzel Scholarship, established in 1967 to assist deserving students continuing their education in accredited institutions of higher learning in the field of education; and the Waterbury Womenâs Club Scholarship, established in 1997 to assist deserving students desiring to further their education in the field of education of children with learning disabilities.
There is also a Wesleyan Writers Conference Scholarship available. This scholarship is awarded to a woman who has a major interest in writing. The conference, rated nationally in the top three for writers, provides participants a week to study with famous writers, to meet publishers and editors and to work on their own writing skills. Members of the conference, include authors from the United States and foreign countries. The program includes fiction writing, poetry, literary nonfiction, and memoir among other genres.
