Gertrude M. Ballard

Newtown Resident

For 42 Years

Gertrude M. (Kavanaugh) Ballard, 89, of Brookfield and previously of Newtown, died July 13 in Danbury Hospital. Mrs Ballard was the wife of the late A. Winthrop Ballard, who was the assistant superintendent of Newtown Schools for many years. She was born in West Haven, January 20, 1920, a daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (Gregan) Kavanaugh.

Mrs Ballard was a resident of Newtown for 42 years and was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church. She had also been a member of the Newtown Woman’s Club, the Rocking Rooster Square Dance Club, and the Newtown Republican Town Committee.

Mrs Ballard is survived by her children, Mark Ballard of Newtown, Jacquelyn Yeatman of Lynchburg, Va., Patricia Edgar of Bluffton, S.C., Gary Ballard of Southbury, and Leslie da Silva of Danbury; a brother, Thomas Kavanaugh of Coal Center, Penn.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will held in Newtown Village Cemetery at a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown CT 06470. Arrangements are in the care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
