The Newtown Middle School softball team made it eight in a row last week with a 17-9 win over Memorial Middle School. Lisa Morgan whiffed nine batters in four innings to give her 99 strikeouts for the season â snapping the record set four years ago by Cathy Byrne, who went on to have a stellar career at Newtown High School.
The Lady Lions banged out 25 hits (only one for extra bases) on the afternoon, with Lauren Cascia collecting four hits and Caitlin Thursland and Morgan banging out three apiece. Ashley Ferris, Christie Caruso, Emily Nezvesky, Emily Blewett and Valerie Nezvesky had two hits apiece.
Blewett had the only extra base hit, a double.
