High School Ministry
The Rev Thomas W. Powers, who grew up in Newtown, has been named spiritual director of Trinity High School in Stamford, replacing the Rev John Castaldo.
Father Powers, who last served as parochial vicar of St Theresa Parish in Trumbull, also will serve as spiritual director of the St John Fisher Seminary residence, where he will reside and be responsible for the spiritual guidance of seminarians.
Born in 1965, Father Powers attended St Rose of Lima Elementary School and Immaculate High School. He received his STB degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1996 and his STL from John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Rome.
He was ordained by then-Bishop Edward M. Egan in 1997, and appointed to Trinity by Bishop William E. Lori.
At St Theresaâs, Father Powers was active with the parishâs youth group, and service work at the Thomas Merton Center and the Missionaries of Charity Convent.
In another appointment, the Rev Brian P. Gannon has been named spiritual director of Notre Dame High School, succeeding Sister Marie Vianney Gallagher, SSND. Father Gannon was parochial vicar at St Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish in Brookfield.
