Local Man Dies Following One-Car Accident
Police report that a local man died early Thursday morning from injuries he received late Wednesday night in a one-car accident that occurred on Brushy Hill Road, about 1,000 feet south of its intersection with Platts Hill Road.
Police said that motorist Gregory Layda, 45, of Mt Nebo Road was driving a four-door 1997 Subaru Impreza compact car northward on Brushy Hill Road at about 10:12 pm on Wednesday.
While Layda was negotiating a right curve in the road, the auto went out of control near 172 Brushy Hill Road and slid off the left side of the roadway, striking a stone wall, police said.
Botsford firefighters responded to the accident. The crash damage required that Mr Layda be extricated from the vehicle, officials said.
Police said that Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Mr Layda to Danbury Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
Police Officer William Chapman is investigating the accident. He is being assisted by accident reconstruction specialist Officer Jeff Silver.
