State Tourney Seedings Announced
The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference announced the seedings and brackets for soccer, field hockey, and girlsâ volleyball on Wednesday.
Newtown High Schoolâs volleyball, and girlsâ and boysâ soccer teams all earned home games to begin their tournaments. Here is a look at the early round scenarios for the Nighthawks:
Field hockey: The Nighthawks earned the No. 18 seed and a Class L qualifying round game at No. 15 Hall of Hartford on Thursday, November 8 (after The Bee went to press). The Nighthawks posted a regular season record of 6-9-0-1 (wins, losses, ties, and overtime losses). Hall, meanwhile, was 8-6-2-0.
Girlsâ volleyball: Newtown got the sixth seed and a first-round bye in the Class LL bracket. The Nighthawks will host the winner of No. 11 Amity of Woodbridge and No. 22 Norwich Free Academy in a second-round match on Saturday, November 10, at 7 pm. Newtown went 14-4 in the regular season.
Girlsâ soccer: Coming off their South-West Conference championship game defeat, the Nighthawks will begin Class LL action at home on Friday, November 9. The sixth-seeded Hawks will entertain No. 27 Staples of Westport at 2 pm. Newtown went 12-1-3 in the regular campaign and Staples was 5-7-4.
Boysâ soccer: No. 9 Newtown was scheduled to host No. 24 Cheshire on Thursday. Newtown went 11-2-3, and Cheshire was 7-5-4.
